OneOme provides RightMed® test to Ochsner Health, advancing personalized precision medicine for employees.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - April 5, 2023

Ochsner Health, one of the leading nonprofit, multi-specialty health care systems in the Gulf South, has contracted with OneOme® to provide pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing for their patients and covered employees and family members through OneOme’s RightMed® solution.

Pharmacogenomics (PGx) is the study of how genetics may affect an individual’s response to medications. PGx testing analyzes a patient's DNA to give doctors and pharmacists information that may help them optimize medication selection for each patient, reduce trial and error in the prescribing process and decrease the likelihood of adverse drug reactions. Together, these efforts can lower potential healthcare costs and vastly improve patient experience and outcomes.

“These tests are innovative, but we are using peer-reviewed and evidence-based guidelines available for the drug/gene interactions for which we are testing,” said Catherine Oliver, PharmD, BCPS, DPLA, CPGx, System Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services for Ochsner Health. “Even if the patient doesn’t use the medications at the time of the test, it helps providers make decisions about individual care going forward.”

PGx testing, available as an included service in the Ochsner Health Employee benefit plan for any employee/patient, will be ordered by an Ochsner provider who would find it useful in the clinical management of the patient.

“We are enthusiastic to see RightMed testing be accessible, available, and actionable for providers, patients, and employees within the Ochsner Health system,” said James Kelley, MD, PhD, Chief Medical Officer at OneOme. “This initiative shows their continued commitment to personalized medicine and best health outcomes.”
